At AECOM, we're at the forefront of innovation, delivering an exceptional portfolio of water programmes and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients. We have secured places on major frameworks with the Environment Agency, National Grid, Wessex Water, Anglian Water, National Highways, Southern Water, and South West Water. As well as our existing major infrastructure clients, we have a large pipeline of work which we would love you to be part of.

Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water Team as a Principal Hydrologist in one of our UK offices - whilst also taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model. You will manage resources and identify training requirements across our northern modelling teams. This role has not been previously defined and is yours to develop, with the support of a national modelling community.

Here's what you'll do:
  1. Deliver: Technically lead flood hydrological assessments assisting in flood alleviation schemes, flood risk assessments, or preparing Environment Agency flood maps. Review hydrological assessment reports.
  2. Quality: Stay updated with legislation and guidelines affecting our services. Apply industry standards (FEH) to derive flood flows estimations for various catchment types across England.
  3. Collaboration: Build relationships with clients and other technical disciplines. Support business development activities for a range of national and international projects.
  4. Support: Mentor team members in hydrological estimation to aid their professional development.
  5. Lead: Represent AECOM at conferences, showcase our expertise, and drive innovation within the team. Be an active member of our national hydrologists and hydraulic modellers community.

If you're passionate about innovation and turning bold ideas into reality, we want to hear from you! Follow our AECOM Water page on LinkedIn to stay updated on our projects and industry impact. Come grow with us.

Our current UK clients include local government, water companies, and private developers. We also work on large international projects, including:

  • Great Grid Partnership supporting UK's energy transition.
  • Environment Agency Mapping and Modelling Framework for flood risk mapping.
  • Thames Water Professional Services Framework.
  • Severn Trent Water Design Services Framework.
  • Southern Water Strategic Delivery Partner projects.
  • Wessex Water Capital Delivery Framework.

Join our team of around 700 experts across the UK & Ireland, delivering projects from concept to completion. We offer an inclusive, forward-thinking environment with benefits supporting your well-being, career development, and work-life balance, including flexible and part-time options.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Chartered member of ICE or CIWEM.
  • Experience in flood flow estimation using FEH and REFH2, including rating reviews.
