Job Title: Principal Engineer – Support Engineering

Location: Barrow-in-Furness, Filton, Brough OR Coventry. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role

Salary: Negotiable dependant on experience

What you’ll be doing

Assist the Senior Engineering Manager in delivering effective ILS outputs for the Strategic Weapon System Support (SWSS) solution

Provide expert support knowledge in responding to engineering queries from the MOD or Submarine Enterprise partners about the design, safety, maintenance, and operation of equipment and systems on in-service submarines

Offer expert advice on equipment in line with current governance processes, in response to engineering queries from the MOD Design Authority

Deliver support to the appropriate Engineering and Support Managers in the preparation of briefs and reports for both internal

Provide technical support for creating the maintenance plan, ensuring it meets Design Authority requirements, and contribute to work aimed at reducing duration, including related risks and issues and external reporting requirements

Provision of SWSS technical information from previously published sources where still available

Your skills and experiences

Knowledge of DN Class Platform / SWSS (Strategic Weapon System Support), operation, maintenance and training

Strategic Weapon System (SWS) qualification

Knowledge of MOD Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) and Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) processes

Knowledge of the complete engineering lifecycle with some experience of operating in a number of phases

Strong awareness of Product Safety & Environmental policies and SHE

The Datum Pack team

This specialist role works closely with the Product Configuration team, particularly in relation to managing the Datum Pack, which is just one part of their responsibilities. This SQEP technical advisory role will collaborate directly with the technical delivery teams who manage and organize product-related items, providing them with authoritative guidance and technical assurance. You will become part of a rapidly growing team focused on support and supportability within a fast‑paced and continuously evolving environment. The role requires sharpness and adaptability to effectively meet the demands of this challenging setting. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
