Overview

North Tyneside's Finance team is seeking a Principal Accountant to act as a finance business partner, providing financial insights, analysis, and strategic guidance to support decision-making within the Authority. The role reports to the Finance Manager as part of the finance leadership team and provides finance leadership and planning to assist the Authority's Section 151 Officer and Head of Finance in delivering statutory financial requirements. It involves senior-level professional advice and support to facilitate effective decision-making and to provide guidance to the Senior Leadership Team on financial matters.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a finance business partner, delivering financial insights, analysis, and strategic guidance to support decision-making within the Authority.
  • Report to the Finance Manager as part of the finance leadership team.
  • Provide finance leadership and planning to assist the Authority\'s Section 151 Officer and Head of Finance in delivering statutory financial requirements.
  • Operate at a senior level within the Authority, offering professional advice, support, and guidance to support effective decision making.
  • Provide advice and guidance to the Senior Leadership Team on financial matters.
  • Apply knowledge of Local Authority accounting regulations and practice, particularly relating to final accounts, budgeting, and budget monitoring.
  • Maintain a relevant professional qualification and up-to-date continuing professional development.
  • Ideally have experience of managing diverse, multi-disciplinary, specialist teams and possess the ability to influence, develop, motivate, and successfully drive behavioural change.
