The Role
Adept is recruiting on behalf of a well-established, high-quality manufacturing client for a Precision Machinist to join their operations team. This is a senior, skilled machining role requiring a strong background in precision engineering, with responsibility for machine set‑up, high‑quality output, in‑process inspection, and continuous improvement. The role would suit an experienced machinist with both manual and CNC capability, comfortable working to tight tolerances in a safety‑critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate precision machining equipment, including manual and/or CNC machines, to produce components to specification
- Work to tight tolerances, ensuring dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements are met
- Carry out in-process inspection using appropriate measuring equipment
- Take ownership of quality, safety, and output within the machining area
- Safely handle materials and components using appropriate lifting and handling equipment
- Work flexibly across shifts to support production demand and team requirements
- Contribute to continuous improvement activities, including problem-solving, method improvement, and efficiency initiatives
- Support set‑up reduction and best‑practice machining methods
- Carry out operator‑level machine maintenance, including pre-start checks, lubrication, and clean-down
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping (5S)
- Support and mentor less experienced team members where required
- Complete effective shift handovers, ensuring continuity and quality between shifts
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Time-served or demonstrably experienced Precision Machinist
- Strong background in manual machining, with CNC set-up/operation experience advantageous
- Proven experience machining metal and/or complex alloys
- Confident working to tight tolerances and interpreting engineering drawings
- Strong understanding of quality standards, inspection techniques, and process control
- Positive attitude toward safety, quality, and continuous improvement
- Comfortable taking ownership and accountability in a senior machining role
