Job description

Cuffley and Goffs Oak Medical Centre is looking to welcome an experienced paramedic into our busy practice. The post-holder will be the first point of contact for patients with all types of health problems. They will make decisions and apply appropriate clinical interventions to the presenting patient in the surgery or their own home. This will include initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care. The role is permanent part time and the hours of work are:

  • Monday:12.00pm to 8.00pm
  • Wednesday:8.30am to 6.30pm
  • Friday:8.30am to 6.30pm

The post-holder will be expected to work autonomously, whilst staying within the practice's policies, protocols and guidelines, and to demonstrate safe clinical decision-making. They will be expected to act independently, but will have access to a GP at all times for advice and support. The role will offer you the opportunity to build on your experience of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary healthcare team, as you will work alongside fellow professionals within the practice in support of one another.

Main duties of the job
  • Urgently respond to referrals and provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment at first point of contact by attending to patients, according to patients needs, either in the practice or patient homes;
  • Support and continue the development of an on-the-day emergency patient service in the practice;
  • Accurately triage and prioritise patients, including in emergency situations and telephone triage, demonstrating the use of a variety of techniques to elicit the history of an event/illness, including past medical and drug history.
  • Evaluate clinical information from examination and history taking, and initiate appropriate treatment and/or referral;
  • Review the effectiveness of the treatment provided, making changes where necessary, to improve patient outcomes;
  • Maintain accurate clinical records, in an efficient manner.
About us

We are a large practice based over two sites (just one mile apart) which are Valley View Health Centre and Cuffley Village Surgery.

We have a happy, established team that consists of GPs, nurses, HCAs and paramedics who are all supported by an experienced and organised admin team. We are also joined regularly and supported by colleagues from our primary care network.We use Ardens templates, AccuRx, eConsults, and TPP SystmOne, and offer services including microsuction and womens health services (coil and implant clinics).

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Be a registered paramedic, with HCPC
