Job description
Overview

PRACTICE NURSE – PRIVATE GP PRACTICE

CMB Recruitment is working exclusively with a forward-thinking private GP practice based in South Belfast and dedicated to delivering personalised, high-quality care without the constraints often encountered in NHS settings.

The practice features a partner laboratory offering same day diagnostic results and an on site research & development facility—providing an excellent environment for professional growth and the opportunity to pursue your own clinical interests or research initiatives.

Role

We are seeking a registered Practice Nurse (NMC registered, with a nursing degree) who brings at least 3 years of experience in general practice to our team. You will play a key role in providing comprehensive nursing services—including health assessments, cardiovascular and metabolic testing, and phlebotomy—within a supportive and innovative private practice environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including phlebotomy (venepuncture), VO2 max testing, measurement and evaluation of BMI and body fat index, exercise testing, and electrocardiograms (ECGs).
  • Conduct general and specialised nursing duties typical in a GP setting.
  • Wound care and dressing changes.
  • Blood pressure measurement and basic health screening.
  • Administer vaccinations and immunisations (routine, travel, etc.).
  • Chaperone and assist during examinations or minor procedures.
  • Review and manage patients with chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, respiratory issues).
  • Maintain accurate clinical records, manage clinical equipment and supplies, and ensure adherence to infection control protocols.
  • Support or contribute to clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and professional development opportunities.
The Person

Applicants must have:

  • BSc or equivalent nursing degree in an NMC-regulated field (e.g., adult nursing).
  • Current, valid NMC registration.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working within general practice.
  • Demonstrated competence in phlebotomy and performing ECGs.
  • Strong clinical assessment, attention to detail, and patient-centred communication skills.
  • Proficiency with healthcare IT systems and accurate record-keeping.

In addition, it would be beneficial but not essential if you had:

  • Experience in chronic disease management clinics (e.g., diabetes, COPD, cardiovascular disease).
  • Training or experience with additional diagnostics (e.g., VO2 max, BMI, body fat index, exercise testing, spirometry, peak flow).
  • Familiarity with clinical governance, audit, and continuous quality improvement processes.
