Practice Lead – Engineering Practice
Life on the team

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Practice Lead with relevant experience to join our dynamic and rapidly expanding Consultancy Practice within Computacenter. This role will be focused on the continued development of our existing and established Engineering team, providing internal and external strategy and thought leadership as well as supporting our sales campaigns.

This Player/Manager role has a 40% Line Management and 60% Consultancy Pre‑sales and delivery governance split. You will be instrumental in assisting customers’ understanding of this leading industry trend and getting the most out of their IT investments by working with them to develop their technology, people and processes for the benefit of their business, customers and employees. Key to your success will be your broad range of long standing and evidenced skills and experiences in designing end to end solutions, building and leading teams and working closely with subject matter experts across all aspects of services and technology disciplines, and delivering technology solutions aligned to Contracted Services capabilities.

What you’ll need
  • Line management of Consultancy Engineers with responsibilities for recruitment and development of individuals. The engineers will have skills, capabilities & experience in Workplace, Networking, Security, Datacenter, Cloud, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure, Observability and Analytical solutions
  • Develop close working relationships with key stakeholders in our Group Professional Services, Sales Business Units, vendor partners to drive pipelines for the Engineering practice
  • Continually build and maintain effective relationships with internal and customer stakeholders becoming a trusted advisor
  • Responsible for the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the aligned engineering team. This includes owning, driving, managing and maintaining KPIs such as financials, utilisation, engagement & enablement
  • Manage the Engineering Service Development Plan, created jointly with the Business Line & Consultancy & Engineering Practice Managers that captures and tracks the required investment in training and service collateral
  • Build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders, relevant partner presales / specialist sales teams and proactively maintain these
  • Maintain good understanding of the wider market and industry trends for relevant solution area
  • Lead, own and support pre‑sales and delivery assurance of transformation solutions and services, including responses to large scale and complex customer opportunities, including ITTs, RFPs and RFIs
  • Using social media and other means of effective communication for Computacenter, Consultancy and Engineering self‑marketing purposes, raising awareness and profile, and providing thought leadership
What you’ll do
  • Extensive experience in IT consultancy with a proven understanding and application of Consulting and Project Management methodologies and frameworks
  • Experience in line‑management, coaching, supervision, team and stakeholder management
  • Experience in engagement delivery, governance and managing of a team of Engineering SME’s
  • Industry leading knowledge in relevant technology areas and of the wider market
  • Proven experience in creating services cost models with appropriate cost levers and the associated quality assurance / governance
  • Ability to interpret customers' business and technical requirements into IT services and solutions is essential
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to present to both technical and commercial audiences
  • The ability to identify and develop differentiated solutions involving multiple technologies and vendors
  • Excellent writing competency with demonstrable ability to provide valuable input into technical and commercial documents
  • Strong commercial acumen – able to protect Computacenter’s margins and reputation
  • Ability to develop others through management, coaching and mentoring
  • Experience of creating and managing virtual teams to harness talent from across Computacenter Professional Services and Group to generate solution collateral including reference architecture and high‑level technology designs
  • Proactive approach in building technical and professional relationships with customers, vendors, partners and internal stakeholders
  • Proven experience in eliciting and validating requirements creating solutions and cost models with appropriate cost levers and associated governance
  • Proven experience of championing or leading the development or innovation of new solutions and services
  • Experience of enforcing corporate governance and assurance policies and processes helping to manage risk in both pre‑sales and in‑flight projects
