Lead the development of portfolio strategies that optimise capital investment and deliver long‑term value. You’ll provide insight and governance to ensure our investment plans align with regulatory frameworks and business priorities. As a Portfolio Strategy Lead, you’ll set the direction for how National Grid invests in its electricity transmission network. You’ll lead the development of National & Regional strategies that optimise capital investment and deliver long‑term value, ensuring our plans enable the UK’s energy transition.
In this role, you’ll shape decisions on multi‑billion‑pound programmes, influencing how we prioritise substation upgrades, overhead line reinforcements, and cable installations, projects that strengthen the network and connect low‑carbon generation. You’ll provide insight and governance to ensure investment plans align with regulatory frameworks and strategic priorities, balancing risk, cost, and benefit to deliver maximum value.
You’ll demonstrate exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively at senior levels. Clear and confident communication, combined with strong business writing capability, will enable you to convey complex strategic insights with impact. A forward‑thinking and analytical mindset is essential, with a focus on problem‑solving and driving continuous improvement. Technically, you’ll bring deep knowledge of capital planning and portfolio optimisation principles, alongside familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as RIIO and associated governance processes. Proficiency in data analytics and financial modelling tools will allow you to deliver robust investment strategies and evidence‑based recommendations.
