Porter (Radiotherapy Department - Berkshire Cancer Centre)

Band 2 Porter (Radiotherapy Department - Berkshire Cancer Centre)

**You must be available to work nights and weekends.**

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our Radiotherapy department at the Berkshire Cancer Centre, for a crucial support role that is integral to the efficient running of the Radiotherapy patient pathway.

You should be a compassionate, caring, dynamic individual who is passionate about ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of Berkshire Cancer Centre patients to and from the wards and the other departments within the Trust; supporting excellent patient experience.

We require an individual who can demonstrate a critical appreciation of best practice and patient safety, in order to deliver excellent patient care, whilst adhering to the Trust values.

Duties include:

  • To transport patients, equipment, medical specimens and supplies between the Radiotherapy Department/BCC Clinic and other departments within the hospital.
  • To assist with the safe manual handling and maneuvering of patients, as required.
  • To undertake some admin duties, as required, to support the Radiotherapy Assistant team.
Main duties of the job
  • To efficiently and effectively transfer Radiotherapy patients being treated at the BCC to and from wards and other departments within the trust as requested, using wheelchairs or trolleys.
  • Ensure the safe movement of medical equipment.
  • Transport pathology specimens from the BCC to other areas of the Trust, as required.
  • Collect and deliver pharmacy items, as required.
  • Transportation of patients between other departments and wards and the BCC, maintaining their warmth comfort and dignity.
  • Ensure any BCC wheelchairs are returned to the department, from other parts of the Trust.
  • To ensure that wheelchairs and stretchers are kept in safe working order; reporting any faults to clinical engineering.
  • Clean wheelchairs/trolleys after each use, according to the Trust infection control procedures.
  • To maintain the stock of oxygen within the Radiotherapy Department; checking on a daily basis; ensuring correct storage utilised and cylinders are within date and at appropriate fill levels.
  • To transport other equipment and deliveries to and from the department and the wider Trust.
  • Lifting and pushing equipment; required to lift and push deliveries/equipment, moving patients/maneuvering patients on beds or trolleys frequently for long periods during the shift.
  • To use the Trust computerised system, to request assistance from the main porters when required, for 2 person patient transfers.
  • To undertake ad-hoc work requests as required, to support workflows within the Radiotherapy Department.
