Main duties of the job

To provide and maintain a professional, efficient, effective and timely service to patients, visitors and other departments that will contribute to achieving high quality patient care.

To ensure the service supports the clinical care of patients and respects the privacy & dignity of every patient.

To ensure the health & safety of both recipients and those delivering the service.

To contribute towards best practice within the department.

To assist the porter management team in the development of the service.

Job responsibilities

Typical day to day responsibilities of our porters include:

  • Moving patients on beds, trolleys & chairs around the hospital.
  • Collecting & delivering specimen samples, blood products.
  • Delivering pharmaceuticals towards & departments.
  • Collection & delivery of medical gases.
  • Waste service collection.
  • Patient food trolleys, clean linen deliveries, postal services, furniture moves.
  • We work with the mortuary department.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Good spoken English, along with good reading and writing skills.
  • Basic IT skills.
Experience
  • Requires a professional and sympathetic approach to people.
  • Have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Is able to accept criticism and learn from it.
  • To work within and be part of the team & carry out tasks independently.
  • To have excellent verbal, thinking & reasoning skills.
  • Have a good understanding of health & safety.
  • Have basic computer knowledge to complete online learning.
