Job description
Overview

The portering department transfers patients, goods and other items around the trust in a prompt, professional and efficient manner. Porters respond to requests for their services quickly to provide a positive patient experience in a safe, professional manner and first-class service that epitomises the Christie reputation.

This is a permanent contract of 37.5 hours per week. This will be Mon-Fri 12:00–20:00. The role involves working on the front line and maintaining a polite and respectable approach at all times.

Responsibilities
  • Transfer patients throughout the trust estate using appropriate means of transport and portering management software TeleTracking as required.
  • Collect, transport and dispose of waste materials, including clinical waste, from wards and theatres following Trust guidelines.
  • Collect, transport and dispose of specimens from wards/depts to laboratories using TeleTracking; training will be provided.
  • Collect and transport blood products from the blood room to wards/depts in line with transfusion procedures.
  • Move patients using wheeled equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, trollies, beds) and assist as required.
  • Move deceased patients from wards/depts to the Mortuary with respect and dignity.
  • Carry the emergency Alertive/Allocate response device as part of the Trust cardiac arrest team and support clinical colleagues with equipment as needed.
  • Move furniture and similar items around the trust.
  • Deliver clean linen and collect dirty linen; arrange removal of waste furniture and electrical items for disposal.
  • Ensure safe delivery, storage and correct segregation of full/empty medical gas cylinders.
  • Move clinical equipment (such as pumps) to and from wards/departments as required.
  • Move beds and mattresses to and from wards/departments and bed stores.
  • Deliver items from Stores to wards and departments when required; deliver drugs from Pharmacy to wards/depts promptly and in accordance with procedures, ensuring handover to ward/dept staff.

Notes: The closing date for this post may be extended or brought forward depending on applicant volume.
