Job description

Collect and gather material, intelligence, and evidence from a range of sources (including volume and priority crime reports, victims, witnesses, suspects, and other sources of material) and record and retain it in an evidentially admissible format to support the investigative process.

Identify and plan investigative actions, considering resources, priorities, and proportionality to pursue all reasonable lines of enquiry, whether they point towards or away from a suspect, to achieve investigatory objectives.

Interview witnesses and suspects, applying appropriate principles and techniques to gather required information, intelligence, and evidence within the criminal law and legal framework to help bring offenders to justice.

Use relevant powers, applying the 'arrest necessity' test to consider arresting, apprehending when necessary, issuing warnings, and other options such as 'Released Under Investigation'.

Additional role specifics include alignment with one of three Amberstone teams located within the Police Investigation Centres in Southampton, Portsmouth, or Basingstoke, with hours aligned to shift patterns (08:00 - 22:00), and potential for outside hours and out-of-county work as operationally required.

Candidates must be PIP1 accredited with a minimum of 1 year investigative experience or evidence supporting this, and hold a current authorisation to drive police vehicles. Dress code varies between office/enquiries and operational activities.

This role requires mandatory psychological screening.

Essential qualifications include completion of the Tier 2 or Tier 3 interview accreditation process or willingness to undertake it, and completion of the STO course or equivalent.

Essential experience involves complex information gathering, problem solving, understanding of the criminal justice system, and knowledge of College Guidance.

Desirable skills include excellent communication, IT proficiency, problem analysis, teamwork, self-review, prioritization, relationship-building, and report writing.

Due to the non-specialist nature of the role, an Expression of Interest (EOI) is requested.
