Band: NHS Agenda for Change – Band 5

Hourly Rate: £14.50 – £17.70 per hour (depending on experience)

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time – 37.5 hours per week

Location: Trust sites (multi-site working)

The Role

We are recruiting a Band 5 Technician (Plumber) to join an NHS Estates Maintenance team, delivering planned, reactive, and preventative mechanical and plumbing works across healthcare sites. This role is critical to keeping clinical and non-clinical environments safe, compliant, and operational.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plumbing and mechanical maintenance (planned and reactive)
  • Fault finding on hot & cold water systems, heating, gas and plant
  • Compliance with HTMs, Gas Safety Regulations, and NHS standards
  • Use of electronic job systems to log and close work orders
  • Water safety duties and Legionella control (where trained)
  • Escorting and supervising contractors
  • Participation in the on-call rota (additional payment applies)
Essential Requirements
  • Plumbing qualification (City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in mechanical / plumbing maintenance
  • Strong Health & Safety awareness
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence
Desirable
  • NHS estates experience
  • Gas Safe registration
  • Water Safety / HTM competent person experience IOSH or equivalent H&S qualification
