Job summary

A leading independent technology provider is looking for a Platform (Unix) Administrator to join their Enterprise Team. You will be responsible for managing Unix infrastructure to ensure high availability and performance. The role includes providing technical support, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with engineering teams. Applicants should have expertise in RHEL and Oracle Linux, and be familiar with tools like Ansible, Docker, and Azure. The position is full-time and based in Nottingham or Hatfield.

Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of Unix administration, especially RHEL and Oracle Linux.
  • Proficiency with Ansible, Docker, Podman, and Azure.
  • Experience with Oracle middleware and backup/recovery solutions.
  • Strong understanding of ITIL v4 and relevant ISO standards.

Life on the team

Join our Enterprise Team at Computacenter and play a key role in supporting our Managed Service customers. As an experienced Platform (Unix) Administrator, you’ll work in a dynamic environment managing critical infrastructure built for high availability and performance. You’ll be responsible for day-to-day Unix administration, installations, backup and recovery, and project delivery, while also providing out-of-hours support on a rota basis.

Hatfield, Nottingham or Milton Keynes (full-time in office)

Must be SC Cleared, or willingness to undertake

What You’ll Do
  • Deliver high-quality technical support and project work across RHEL, Oracle Linux, and other Unix environments
  • Collaborate with Architecture and Engineering teams on design and implementation
  • Provide technical break/fix support, including 24/7 on-call rota participation
  • Mentor junior team members and share knowledge to drive continuous improvement
  • Ensure compliance with IT methodologies and proactively manage risks and issues
  • Complete regular administration tasks and maintain service levels
What you'll need
  • Expert knowledge of Unix administration (RHEL & Oracle Linux)
  • Familiarity with Ansible, Podman, Docker, and Azure
  • Experience with high availability systems and replication
  • Knowledge of Oracle middleware, databases, and backup/recovery tools (NetBackup/Veeam)
  • Understanding of ITIL v4, ISO 20000, and ISO 27000 standards
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple geographies
