Overview

Our client is currently looking to recruit a Planning Officer on an initial 3 month contract. Preston - Hybrid.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Planning Officer to join a high-performing Development Management team with a specific focus on minerals and waste planning.

This hybrid role involves assessing complex planning applications, providing pre-application advice, investigating breaches of planning control, and supporting strategic projects such as Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs). You'll also have the chance to contribute to planning policy, including the review of the Minerals and Waste Local Plan.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established organisation on an initial 6 month basis with potential for contract extensions.

Responsibilities
  • Assess and manage planning applications related to minerals and waste operations, and development by the authority itself.
  • Provide pre-application advice and support strategic infrastructure planning.
  • Investigate potential breaches of planning control and take appropriate enforcement action.
  • Support the preparation and review of the Minerals and Waste Local Plan.
  • Attend site visits, often involving operational or large-scale development environments.
  • Prepare clear and detailed planning reports and recommendations.
What You’ll Need
  • A degree (or working towards) in Town & Country Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of three years' experience in town planning (development management or policy).
  • Knowledge of minerals and waste planning and related environmental considerations.
  • Strong report writing and analytical skills with an eye for detail.
  • Familiarity with relevant national planning policy and enforcement procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a range of stakeholders.
Additional Information
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use is essential (this is an essential car user role).
  • Physical ability to carry out site visits, including active mineral extraction and waste management sites.
