Planning Manager

Bristol

We are working with a well-established family house builder operating within the West Midlands region, delivering approximately 400 new homes per year. Based from the Bristol office, this is a key appointment reporting directly into the Technical Director and working within a strong, multi-disciplinary technical team.

The business has ambitious growth plans and requires an experienced Planning Manager to help drive forward outline, reserved matters and detailed planning applications. The successful individual will play a critical role in ensuring a consistent pipeline of 4-5 planning approvals per year to support ongoing delivery.

The role
  • Working closely with land, technical and commercial teams to secure timely planning approvals
  • Assisting in identifying new sites both with and without planning permission, including undertaking planning appraisals and technical reviews
  • Promoting strategic site interests through the local plan-making process and identifying opportunities for new applications
  • Managing external consultant teams and overseeing the preparation, submission and determination of planning applications and appeals
  • Representing the business at public meetings, planning committees, hearings and inquiries
  • Coordinating the discharge of planning conditions and Section 106 obligations to allow site starts
  • Negotiating variations to existing planning permissions where required
Skills and attributes
  • A proactive and organised individual who can manage multiple planning applications with autonomy to time and budget
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to track progress across several sites at varying stages
  • Confident advising on planning strategy aligned with wider business objectives
Experience and qualifications
  • Essential: 5-10 years' experience in town planning or a similar discipline, ideally gained with a developer or planning consultancy
  • Desirable: Previous experience working for a house builder
  • MRTPI or RICS qualification preferred
Package
  • Competitive basic salary
  • 10% annual bonuscan replace with 10% annual bonus
  • Car allowance of £6,000
  • 24 days holiday initially, increasing by one day per year after two years of service up to a maximum of 28 days
  • Bristol-based office with an established and supportive team environment
