Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Band 3 Physiotherapy Technician to join our dynamic Intensive Care Unit team at Frimley Park Hospital. This is a unique and rewarding role where you will play a vital part in supporting patients through their critical care journey and beyond.

Main duties of the job

Working as part of the ICU Physiotherapy team and the Critical Care Rehabilitation and Follow-Up Service, you will:

  • Assist physiotherapists in delivering high-quality rehabilitation to patients in ICU.
  • Work closely alongside physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide holistic care.
  • Provide ongoing support to patients stepping down from ICU to the wards, focusing on physical recovery, cognitive function, emotional wellbeing, and overall quality of life.
  • Help patients regain independence through tailored exercise programs and functional activities.
  • Offer reassurance and emotional support to patients and families during a challenging time.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to complete administrative duties such as documenting patient outcomes to support their rehabilitation journey.

Job responsibilities
  • Have own ICU caseload, this will include; PROM, Bed/Chair/Standing exercises, Mobility, Thera trainer
  • Assist with doubles within physiotherapy caseload
  • Physiotherapy: PROM, Bed/Chair/Standing exercises, rehab on edge of bed, transfer practice, mobility, Thera trainer (with or without registered physiotherapist as appropriate)
  • Holistic management: delirium, orientation, suitable games to aid concentration, memory and brain exercises, emotional support, quality of life activities
  • Occupational therapy as appropriate (advised by OT)
  • Joint sessions with members of the MDT including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, SALT, Psychologist
  • Update ICU Step Down Spreadsheet
  • Support the MDT in ensuring the rehabilitation pathways are completed and up to date
  • Support the MDT in ensuring patient diaries are completed and up to date
  • Support the MDT to complete objective assessments on ICU and record outcomes on the spreadsheet
  • Stock and Equipment ordering/organising
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • GCSE or equivalent qualification to demonstrate numeracy and literacy.
  • Associate member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
  • Documented evidence on C.P.D.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
Experience
  • To have had experience working as a Physiotherapy Assistant in the relevant speciality.
  • To have worked as part of a team.
  • To have worked as band 2 or above in NHS in ITU acute
  • Knowledge of anatomy/physiology.
  • Specific clinical knowledge relevant to speciality.
Skills
  • Interpersonal skills to include concise and effective verbal and written communication
  • Logical, able to problem solve.
