Job summary

A regional healthcare provider is seeking an experienced Physiotherapist to join the Pulmonary Rehabilitation service. This role involves assessing and monitoring patients with respiratory conditions, leading rehabilitation classes, and providing training to therapy assistants. The ideal candidate will have experience in band 5 rotations and excellent communication skills. Job description

We are currently looking for an experienced Physiotherapist to join the Pulmonary Rehabilitation service at Southend University Hospital, part of the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. The service provides rehabilitation following diagnosis of a long respiratory condition in the form of classes and telephone consultations to support long‑term breathlessness management.

The successful candidate will need experience in a variety of band 5 rotations and a demonstrated interest in pulmonary rehabilitation services. Excellent communication, organisational skills and flexibility are required to support the clinical service alongside the data collection requirements of the post.

You will be responsible for assessing patients with a variety of respiratory conditions and/or surgeries, setting them up on the most appropriate pathway to support their individual needs, monitoring their progress during the classes and referring them to appropriate services upon completion of their course. The role also involves leading the exercise component of the pulmonary rehabilitation classes and delivering education sessions.

The role will involve providing supervision and training to band 2 therapy assistants, as well as advising rehabilitation staff within inpatient services on long‑term management of respiratory conditions.

  • Monitor patients’ progress during their pulmonary rehabilitation course, modifying as required to support the individual needs
  • Make timely referrals for patients to appropriate community services following completion of hospital classes
  • Maintain accurate records for patients attending assessments and rehabilitation classes
  • Maintain accurate data in line with the data collection requirements of the service
  • Participate in service development alongside the Band 7
