Job description
Overview

Perform phlebotomy and support other staff of a team whilst providing optimum patient care. To deputise for the Phlebotomy supervisor in their absence and carry out duties deemed reasonable by the phlebotomy manager. This role requires a full UK driving licence and car for transportation to other sites.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the collection of blood samples from inpatients, outpatients, clinics, GP surgeries and patients’ homes as specified by the supervisor. Experience in taking blood from all ages, from babies to the elderly.
  • Undertake competency assessments of the venepuncture procedure for all new staff.
  • Serve as a point of reference for health and safety for the department, attending and supporting regular health and safety meetings.
  • Monitor and record staff leave/absence.
  • Ensure mandatory training is completed.
  • Act as a phlebotomy supervisor in their absence.
  • Support the phlebotomy supervisor in their role.
  • Assist in compiling staff rosters.
  • Manage safe disposal of contaminated materials, including sharps.
  • Perform reception duties, welcoming and advising patients and staff as required.
  • Track and record samples to ensure audit information is available.
  • Record key performance indicators for the phlebotomy department.
  • Maintain consumable stocks and ensure availability.
  • Support less experienced staff in orientation to the department and role.
  • Participate in appraisals and personal reviews, working to achieve personal objectives.
  • Provide a comprehensive phlebotomy service 7 days a week, all days of the year.
  • Assist with delivering high‑quality service for staff and patients.
  • Promote and monitor adherence to health and safety and Trust policy to protect staff and service users.
  • Carry out duties prescribed by the Network Phlebotomy Manager in accordance with this grade of post.
  • Provide an immunisation and vaccination report from your current UK occupational health provider or UK GP.

In addition, community clinics, GP clinics and domiciliary services cover Coventry, Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Birmingham.
