A healthcare provider in Scunthorpe is seeking compassionate and flexible individuals for part-time roles as Phlebotomist/Medical Laboratory Assistant. The position involves supporting blood sample processing and direct patient interactions. Candidates should possess good communication skills and team collaboration abilities, with desirable experience in a hospital laboratory setting. The working hours span between Monday and Friday with participation in weekend rosters as needed. Training will be provided. Salary is pro rata at £24,465 per annum.

Job Summary

If so, you could be an important part of the Blood Sciences team at Northern Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust. We have an opportunity within the Path Links pathology services for a Phlebotomist/Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA).

We Have Two Vacancies:

  • 1 x 20 hrs – working 3 days (MLA/Phlebotomist)
  • 1 x 16 hrs – working 4 hrs per day over 4 days (Phlebotomist/MLA)

The Phlebotomy and MLA staff work closely within the department of Blood Sciences, acting as supporting roles for both the taking & processing of blood samples that are then tested using complex analytical platforms.

The Phlebotomy service is based in outpatients & also comprises a daily ward service. There is also a service provided at our Community diagnostic centre.

Duties associated with the role are the support of the blood test booking line, pathology reception – meet & greet patients, taking blood samples, working in the sample reception area, loading samples onto analytical equipment. While the role is based at Scunthorpe, there is a requirement to work cross‑site at Goole as and when required. Full training will be provided to the successful candidate. Both theory & practical competency assessments will be completed, consolidating the training received.

Responsibilities

Applications are invited to become part of our team in the busy and friendly Pathology Department at Scunthorpe General Hospital. The post will be based at Scunthorpe hospital sites, with the flexibility to work at the CDC and at the Goole site as and when required, all being part of the Blood Sciences team.

This post is based in Pathology incorporating Blood Sciences Sample Reception. The successful candidate will, after suitable training, also be expected to take blood from patients within the Pathology Department and ward areas, and undertake other laboratory duties.

Previous experience in phlebotomy and/or a medical laboratory skill would be an advantage. Good communication skills, flexibility and the ability to work within a team are essential.

The post requires work to be undertaken between the hours of 8:00am to 8:00pm Monday to Friday, and also includes participation in the weekend staffing rota on a rotational basis 8:00am – 8:00pm.
