A local healthcare provider is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to ensure safe and effective prescribing within our team. In this role, you'll engage with patients, coordinate medication reviews, and improve prescribing processes. We are looking for a motivated and skilled Pharmacy Technician (GPhC registered) to play a vital role in our Prescribing Team. In this position, you will be at the heart of ensuring safe, efficient, and effective prescribing across our Practice, making a real difference to patient safety and experience.
You will work closely with GPs, nurses, and our administrative teams, supporting everything from medication reviews and repeat prescribing processes to liaising with patients, carers, and other healthcare professionals. You will help improve prescribing systems, answer medication queries, and develop innovative ways to keep our patients safe and well-informed.

This is a key role within our Prescribing Team, providing leadership and support while working closely with GPs, clinical staff, and reception teams. The post holder is a Pharmacy Technician registeredwith the General Pharmacy Council. They work within their professionboundaries to be an integral part of the Prescribing Team. They are key to themaximisation of the safe prescribing of medications across the Practice,ensuring that targets for monitoring common medications are met, and workingwith colleagues to enhance existing monitoring systems and therefore ensuringpatient safety.
The pharmacy technician also plays an important role inefficient prescribing, working to improve repeat prescribing processes.Working within guidelines and competencies agreed with the Practice, theyalso engage directly with patients, helping them to better understand andbenefit from their medications. Patient safety sits at the heart of all theseactivities.
To play a key role within ourPrescribing Team by providing leadership and support, as well as workingcollaboratively with GPs, other clinical staff, and reception teams.
The role will include:Coordinating discharge summaries and medication reviews, playing acentral role in repeat prescribing processes, liaising with patients, nursinghomes, carers, hospital and community pharmacies. Responding to medication queries and updatingmedical records.
Post holders will need to demonstrateflexibility and adaptability to working in a dynamic and busy environment
KeyRole Requirements
Acting as triage and support for repeatmedicines queries
To undertake medication-related audit
Check Eclipse data on a weekly basis
Support in clinical guidance around specialistonly, unlicensed and not recommended drugs
Review high cost items
Review high quantity dressing requests
Review discharge notifications that havemedication alteration
Supporting prescribing clerks and identifyingtraining needs
Dealing with out of stock queries
Dealing with medicines related complaints
Where possible dealing with difficultprescriptions that need an action by the GP. To develop the knowledge of otherhealthcare professionals to identify and manage poor concordanceeffectively. To carry out basic medication reviews, concordance reviews and refer to Doctors who will authorisemedication changes. Monitor the primary care DMARDSservice. Liaise with NHS Kent and Medway CCGMedicines Management Team in respect of the practices prescribing andbudget. Assist the reception team and dealwith patient queries. Assist the clinicians to ensure smoothand efficient running of clinics. Dealing with MHRA alerts and create arobust system for review. Lead on EPS and eRD
Communicationand Relationship Skills
Build close and effective relationships withinthe Practice and within the NHS Kent and Medway CCG Practices.
Build relationships with the PCN and a rangeof prescribers and pharmacy professionals including independent contractors.
Communicate with patients and carers who havea limited understanding of medicines.
Knowledge, Training and Experience
Registered with the General PharmaceuticalCouncil (GPhC) .
Meets the specific qualification and trainingrequirements as specified by the GPhC criteria to register as a PharmacyTechnician.
Enrolled in, undertaking or qualified from, anapproved training pathway. Forexample, the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP) or MedicinesOptimisation in Care Homes (MOCH).
Evidence of continuing professionaldevelopment.
Minimum of 3 years in a medicines orientatedenvironment.
Computer literacy knowledge of MicrosoftWord, Excel and Power-point and Clinical systems e.g. Emis
Good understanding of issues affecting primarycare prescribing.
Good understanding of issues affectingmedicines adherence
Good understanding of the common medicinesprescribed for long term conditions in primary care.
Good at practical problem solving.
Ability to work and integrate into GP practice& associated multidisciplinary teams.
Analyticaland Judgement Skills
Development of best practice to inform andchallenge prescribing behaviours in all prescribers and improve quality andpatient outcomes.
Interpretation of prescribing data andclinical system patient records.
Ability to assess the patient or carersunderstanding of taking medicines.
Able to make assessment of the interventionsrequired to improve medicines adherence.
