Wehave an as and when vacancy for a Pharmacy Porter within Medicines Managementand Pharmacy Services team. This post is based in the Inpatient Pharmacy atthe LGI and St James University.

Shifts/Hoursrequired are varied between 9am and 10pm over 7 days a week.

Main duties of the job

Thepost holder will provide a variety of duties including:

Distributionof Pharmaceuticals to wards and departments - this includes pushing trolleysand cages across the site from pharmacy to wards and departments

Prioritisingworkload to ensure urgent medicines are dealt with as a priority

Obtainingsignatures for receipt of medicines

Recyclingof medicines

Removalof waste, cardboard and recycling to skips

Job responsibilities

Thepost holder is member of the pharmacy operational team and will beresponsible for carrying out any duties commensurate with the grade ofpost. The role includes provision oftransfer of medicines from the pharmacy department to wards, theatres andother departments within the Trust, assisting with reception duties andsupporting the dispensaries with other routine tasks. The role requires flexibility in approachto the duties required as these may alter throughout the course of a workday/week, however the post holder will have one primary role that they willorientate towards on a daily basis.High standards of quality will be expected to be delivered in linewith MMPS/LTHT practices and policies.

Thepost holder will be expected to have basic knowledge of a number ofadministrative and operational functions and utilise LTHT IT systems in orderto complete their job role. The natureof the role requires the use of responding to some tasks via a definedcommunication system.

JOBDIMENSIONS

Adheringto standards and practices in Trust Policy and Pharmacy practices/proceduralmanuals alongside national initiatives, to ensure that medicines aretransferred in a safe and secure manner.

Tobe a point of contact for patients and other visitors to the Trust andprovide a warm friendly welcome offering directions, support andassistance.

Teammembers will be expected to operate as part of the Pharmacy team covering anyTrust managed service.

Ensurethat all tasks are carried out in compliance with relevant statutorylegislation and local policies and codes of practice by following agreed safeworking procedures, and reporting incidents using the Trust IncidentReporting system.

PRINCIPALDUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

The safe and efficienttransportation of medicines to wards and departments across the Trustensuring compliance with Trust Medicines Management policies. All medicinesincluding controlled drugs have a requirement to be signed out of pharmacyand a signature of recipt at ward/dept level

To remove recyclable medicineswaste from wards and departments and deliver securely back to pharmacy

To clean areas/equipment in linewith infection prevention and control practices/policy, portering duties musttake priority.

The removal of refuse and waste todesignated areas in line with Trust Infection Prevention and ControlPolicy/Waste Policy

The movement of medicines, fluids,dietry products and/or goods as determined by the department across the Trustsites, including associated equipment ie assisting in moving of officefurniture using allocated equipment.

Responsible for the safety andsecurity of any goods/equipment used with the specific role.

To provide appropriate response toany alarm upon activation i.e. fire alarms, including directions forresponding teams.

To organise and sort goods/items inan effectively manner for distribution across the Trust sites according toschedules.

Ensure an adequate supply ofitems/equipment necessary for the role are maintained.

Receipt of incomingdeliveries/goods/products ensuring that all goods inwards are checked againstdelivery notes and official orders. Ensuring that items meet quality andquantity specified and any good specific requirements.

Operation and minor maintenance ofall equipment/manual handling aids necessary for the role to be used incompliance with standard operating procedures

Ensuring all communications areresponded to in an efficient/timely manner.

To follow all local methodstatements & risk assessments to ensure that the role is undertaken in asafe, secure manner.

Act on feedback given from anyquality assurance system

Communication with allied healthprofessionals/trust staff members to ensure that the patients health andwellbeing is being maintained in helping to deliver excellent clinicaloutcomes.

To report anyfaults/issues/complaints/Health & Safety concerns regarding serviceprovision or equipment immediately to the supervisor or other appropriatesenior Trust staff member.

To complete and record rolespecific data/information either electronically or in written format that isrequired complying with operational procedures or local/Trust/National policyand audit recommendations/controls.
