PERSONAL ASSISTANT REQUIRED : A young lady from Llandeilo is seeking a personal assistant (P/A). LLANDEILO AREA, CARMARTHENSHIRE 4 hours a week flexible:

Hours of work to include daytime, evenings, and weekends ALSO REQUIRED TO COVER HOLIDAYS, SICKNESS DAYS, & other absences, (with extra hours available for this) A young lady with Visual Impairment, mobility issues, ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder, Dyspraxia, and other health issues, is looking for a P/A who will help support her in her pursuit of her hobbies and other interests.

The young lady is a part-time wheelchair user and uses a long cane when walking shorter distances.

She has a small emotional support dog that she takes out with her, so will need to be transported, (crate provided). There is a cat in the family home.

Interests include history, training & taking her dog for a walk, trips to cinema, shopping, lunches, and she would like to be out and about and visit interesting venues, including trips to the countryside and seaside etc.

This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme and is intended for this lady to improve & maintain her independence.

Main Duties
  • Support with social & volunteering activities, as required.
  • Support with mobilising in strange environments, either in wheelchair or walking with long cane.
  • Ensure the safety of your employer at all times during activities.
  • Be aware of clutter/rubbish blocking walkways and clear as needed.
  • Assist your employer in the development of certain parts of independent living, whilst supporting them to manage & maintain others, enabling access to a greater range of opportunities to enhance her lifestyle, self-esteem, self-confidence & independence.
  • Ensure that your employer is able to fully express her individuality and determine her choices around her life and Direct Payments.

N.B. Part‑time wheelchair user:

  • Using both powered & manual wheelchair, the powered one can be wheeled along like a suitcase when folded and will fit in a reasonable sized car boot. The manual one concertinas in and handles fold down.

The wheelchair will need to be put into your car and transported.

  • Due to visual impairment, uses a long cane when is able to walk, or has to walk determined by health & the environment trying to access.
  • May need sighted guiding in low lighting and lower vision situations, (training can be arranged). Mention Mileage?? 45p , but only once at work and up to a shared maximum of 80 miles a week across all the PAs Principal duties and responsibilities:

  • Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence
  • Enabling the employer to interact socially in their community
  • Providing support to the employer whilst shopping and attending activities of interest
  • Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills
  • To provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation with the employer and providing them with social interaction
  • Encouraging the employer to attend appointments
  • Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during your working hours
  • To carry out any other reasonable tasks that are requested by the employer during your working hours
  • To ensure compliance with Data Protection Act.
  • Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to Carmarthenshire County Council immediately on (01267 228751)
  • Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should the employer need medical assistance.
  • Help with wheelchair use, including travel.
  • Being a sighted guide when necessary, (training can be arranged).

  • To undertake all duties in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • To undertake training to understand supporting employers visual impairment & other disabilities.
  • Able to contact people on behalf of the employer when necessary, whilst also supporting & enabling employer to improve communication confidence to support developing independence Job Working Environment: Working in employer’s home and supporting them to access facilities and community activities away from the home, including transporting to a venue.

  • Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • Able to develop long‑term supportive and consistent relationships with employers.
  • A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required.
  • You must be prepared to have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.
  • Be prepared to undergo training in order to best meet the employers need.
  • Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) A Disclosure Barring Service Check (DBS) / criminal record check will require to be undertaken for this post. This will be completed on acceptance of job offer.
