Job summary

A community support organization in Newton Aycliffe is seeking a Personal Assistant to support a 6-year-old with autism. The role includes helping the young person access the community during term-time and holidays, assisting with personal care and meal preparation. Skills required include a full UK driving license and own car. Experience with SEND children is desirable. This part-time position offers £13 per hour for employed workers and £16 for self-employed individuals.

Personal Assistant required to support male aged 6 years who lives in Newton Aycliffe.

The young person is autistic and nonspeaking.

They require support to access the community during term-time and school holidays.

The young person enjoys activities such as going to the park and for walks, visiting museums such as Locomotion and Hopetown, soft play, swimming and trampolining.

They also enjoy car/bus/train rides, visits to the seaside when the weather permits, sensory rooms and small, relaxed group activities with other SEND children.

Hours /Wage 5 hours per week term time. 10 hours per week during school holidays. £13 per hour for employed workers. (£16 per hour if self-employed).

Duties Duties include helping the young person access the community.

The young person is fully incontinent and requires support with all aspects of personal care. Preparation of light meals such as cheese sandwiches, chicken nuggets, chips and pizza also required.

Additional Requirements/Information Experience with SEND children, specifically autistic children and those with learning disabilities and anxiety, is not required but desirable. Basic knowledge around Makaton, visual supports and AAC devices is also desirable. Driver’s licence and own car is essential. Due to the young person’s needs, care might occasionally be required within the young person's own home. (Enhanced DBS will be required, employer will cover the cost.)
