Job summary

A charity supporting independent living in Scotland is looking for a part-time Personal Assistant/Companion for a young woman with Multiple Sclerosis in Dreghorn. The role involves providing essential personal care and social support, with a preferred candidate being friendly, understanding of physical disabilities, and a licensed driver. The position offers 5-9 hours weekly with a pay rate of £12.60 - £13.73 per hour.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

P/T Personal Assistant / Companion

Hours: 5 - 9 hrs per week. Days / Hours: earliest start 9.30am, latest finish 8.00pm. Shifts usually Tuesday, may vary.

Rate of Pay: £12.60 - £13.73 per hr.

Duties

Provide personal care assistance, social support and companionship to a young woman who lives with Multiple Sclerosis and is now wheelchair dependent. She resides in her own accommodation in the Dreghorn area. Confidentiality is of utmost importance.

Responsibilities
  • Personal Care: showers, continence care, dressing, breakfast preparation, medication prompting, essential hygiene, housework tasks such as dishes, laundry, bed making, food preparation/batch cooking.
  • Social Support: shopping tasks, putting away deliveries, attending appointments, accessing the wider community (clubs, events, cinema, ten‑pin bowling, meals), assisting with pet dog to groomers or vets, speaking up on her behalf when necessary.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Friendly, cheery, easy‑going, sociable with a genuine interest in maintaining independence.
  • Loves animals.
  • Understanding of MS and experience with clients who have physical disabilities (desirable).
  • Driver with a current licence, own car and business insurance (preferred). Mileage covered for work‑related travel.
  • Will undergo a new PVG Disclosure (employer’s expense) and provide two reference contacts before appointment.
  • 6‑month probationary period; 1 week’s notice within this time if the post does not work out.
