Job description

PA/Carer required to assist with a variety of tasks in the care and support of our teenage son, who has complex needs.

We require support to help with his personal care - changing his continence pads, washing and dressing, brushing teeth etc. The role also includes craft/sensory activities, reading and singing to him. You would also accompany parent on trips out.

Applicants MUST be fit and healthy as the role consists of manual handling and sling and hoist use. You must also be able and willing to get down to our son's level - the floor - to interact with him and carry out activities with him. All of this is non negotiable.

Applicants must have a sense of fun but also know when to tone it down so as not to overwhelm our son. We are looking for someone who can be kind and gentle but firm, and someone who is happy to sing their heart out on a daily basis - a very good knowledge of nursery rhymes and songs is a must. Lots of reading to him is involved so it would be nice to have someone who can put that extra little umph in when reading to make it more fun.

Other duties include some light housework - hoovering, washing up and changing our son's bedding etc. Preparation of meals, snacks and drinks for our son paying attention to parents advisory regarding safe eating. Prescription collection or light shopping.

Applicants must be flexible as working hours can vary from day to day. Working days are mainly Mon to Fri with the very occasional Sat.

The right applicant must be honest, reliable, punctual and non-judgemental. You must be able to use your own initiative and must like dogs.

Two references are required, plus a full DBS check will be carried out.
