Milestones Trust is seeking a dynamic, hands‑on Peripatetic Service Manager to provide expert leadership across our services; stepping in to cover planned/unplanned absences, stabilise performance, and coach teams to deliver consistently safe, personalised, and high quality support.
This is a role for someone who thrives on variety and impact. You'll bring energy and structure to services that need a boost, embed good practice, and leave each team stronger than you found it, always with the needs and aspirations of the people we support at the heart of decision making.
What you’ll do
- Lead and inspire multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, person‑centred, and cost‑effective support, aligned with Milestones Trust values.
- Cover and stabilise services during leadership gaps – prioritising compliance, risk management, rostering, and day‑to‑day delivery.
- Coach and mentor managers and coordinators to embed robust systems, policies, and CQC requirements; champion data‑driven improvement and timely action plans.
- Own service performance: monitor KPIs; drive quality; ensure accurate records; and meet external requirements (Commissioners, Safeguarding, CQC).
- Manage budgets prudently: participate in budget setting, track performance, and take swift remedial action; oversee staffing levels and agency usage.
- Recruit, induct and retain: lead recruitment for immediate teams, ensure great onboarding, purposeful probation, and proactive retention initiatives.
- Be part of the on‑call rota, offering advice to registered and non‑registered services out of hours.
- Build strong relationships with people we support, families, colleagues, and external partners—communicating clearly, professionally, and with authenticity.
- Contribute strategically: shape operational plans and support Trust‑wide priorities to sustain positive cultures and modern, responsive services.
Qualifications
- Proven leadership in social care (e.g. senior carer/support worker, team leader, or manager) with a track record of improving service performance.
- Confident people leader: excellent communication, coaching and mentoring skills; able to model personal authenticity and accountability.
- Operational sharpness: strong systems knowledge, great time management, and a logical approach to problem‑solving and conflict resolution.
- Financial and workforce acumen: budget management, effective rostering, and pragmatic agency oversight.
- Qualifications: ILM Level 5 (or equivalent) or commitment to achieve within two years; GCSEs (A–C or equivalent) in English and Maths plus three other subjects.
- IT literacy in MS Office including MS Teams; willingness to learn Trust systems.
- Flexibility and mobility: ability to travel between sites; a driving licence is preferred due to the multisite nature of the role.
