Job Title: Payroll Co‑Ordinator

Location: Birkenhead (Hybrid)

Salary: £30,000 - £32,000

Service Care Solutions are excited to be partnering with an outstanding national housing association who are looking for a Payroll Co‑Ordinator on a 12 month Maternity contract. You'll play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for a large employee base, working closely with the Payroll Manager and senior team members. This position offers hybrid working, giving you flexibility while maintaining collaboration with the wider finance team.

What you will be doing:
  • Accurately process payroll data, including time and attendance records from rota systems
  • Update and maintain pay rates for starters, leavers, and contract changes
  • Prepare and issue contracts and amendment letters via HR systems
  • Ensure payroll data is authorised and processed within agreed deadlines
  • Handle statutory documentation such as AEOs, tax notices, and student loans
  • Manage sickness absence and statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP, ShPP)
  • Calculate and process final payments including holiday accruals and deductions
  • Respond to payroll queries promptly and professionally
  • Process manual or out‑of‑cycle payments when required
  • Liaise with HMRC, pension providers, and other third parties
  • Perform payroll reconciliations and maintain compliance with legislation
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the payroll function
  • Provide cover for colleagues during absence and assist with expense processing
Requirements and Specifications
  • Minimum 2 years' experience managing end-to-end payroll for a large workforce (1,600+ employees)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proactive, hands‑on approach with strong organisational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience with Access, Select HR and Select Pay (desirable)
  • Familiarity with rota systems such as CareSys, PeoplePlanner, or Care Cloud (desirable)
  • Understanding of LMS/E‑learning systems (desirable)
  • Flexible, approachable, and a strong team player
