Job description
Job Advert

Are you able to work weekends 23 hours per week and looking for a role where you can make a difference to a young person's life?

As part of our dedicated housing provision in Nottingham City Centre, YMCA Robin Hood Group are looking for responsible, trustworthy and compassionate people to join our Supported Housing team to oversee the smooth running of our building but also give our residents all the support and care they require. This is your opportunity to be part of this from the very beginning!

Our Housing Duty Workers are at the heart and soul of our housing team; being the first person most of our residents come into contact with; you will be there to support them with anything they need but also oversee the smooth running of the building in general.

You will share in our belief that everyone should have a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become.

Being a Housing Duty Worker is one of the busiest and most varied roles in our service; you will cover everything from support work, incidents, administration, security, fire safety, cleaning support, and anything else that might crop up while you are on shift.

With specific interest in supporting young people, you will enjoy variety, love being busy and thrive off never being able to predict exactly what will happen that day!

Key responsibilities
  • Being there to provide advice and assistance
  • Providing keys/replacements where needed.
  • Collecting rent payments and dealing with queries or charges relating to rent payments
  • Ensuring residents understand their tenant obligations, rights and responsibilities as outlined in the License Agreement
  • Taking payments
  • Providing first aid
  • Responding to fire alarms
  • Being a first point of call when dealing with incidents, including emergencies, liaising with the police and other agencies to prevent damage/harm to our residents and buildings.
  • Crisis Management and incident reporting.
  • If needed, undertake facilities/domestic duties to maintain the upkeep of our building.

You will also support applications from prospective residents, helping with form filling and signposting other agencies who may be able to help them.

Shift pattern

Working 23 hours per week across weekend, our shift patterns are:

  • Friday – 11pm to 11am
  • Saturday – 11pm to 11am

We have our own team of weekday Housing Duty Workers so there is no need for you to work during the week, unless you wanted overtime.

Why Work for Us?

We are looking for someone ideally with experience or interested in gaining experience working in supported housing with vulnerable adults and young people aged 16‑24 years old. However, we are also happy and able to give you the training and development to start your career in Housing.

You will need to have an understanding of the needs of young people (aged 16‑25) who may have drug, alcohol and other issues. Regardless of your background, you will be confident to deal with difficult situations and handle conflict appropriately.

Ideal candidate

This role would suit you if you have experience or a desire to learn skills for social work, youth work, housing, drug and alcohol services, rehabilitation services, sociology, security and much more.

Key skills and attributes
  • Work with minimal supervision, use initiative, work alone and work as part of a team
  • Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies
  • Deal with conflict, manage aggressive behaviour and diffuse situations effectively
  • Talk to people of all backgrounds and abilities, with excellent communication skills
  • Form and maintain relationships with appropriate professional boundaries, acting as a role model for our residents.

This post is subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS check (paid for by YMCA) and registration with the DBS Update Service. We reserve the right to withdraw this role before the closing date should we be able to appoint to the role.
