Job description

The role is a teaching assistant in Stonehouse (GL10). The hours are 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday, and the contract is temporary and full-time.

About the Role

Support children aged 2‑19 with severe or profound learning difficulties (PMLD) in a specialist institution. Provide day‑to‑day support, creating a nurturing and engaging environment that promotes both educational progress and emotional well‑being.

Responsibilities
  • Assist pupils with teaching sessions and classroom activities.
  • Provide individual and group support tailored to each student’s needs.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Record progress and coordinate with teaching staff.
  • Support the use of assistive technology and learning aids.
  • Promote positive behaviour and well‑being.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Prior experience working with children with SEND, especially autism, ADHD, complex needs, and other learning disabilities.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships.
  • Flexibility, reliability, resilience, empathy and patience.
  • Relevant experience in nurseries, schools, colleges, youth clubs, residential care or other community‑focused settings is an advantage.
  • Previous experience supporting a family member with SEND is an asset.
  • Suitable DBS clearance or willingness to obtain one.
