Job description

Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust is seeking Children’s Palliative Healthcare Assistants for our Black Country Hospice, Walsall. You will deliver holistic care to children and young people with complex, life‑limiting or life‑threatening conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Work under the direction of the registered nurse to provide care in a variety of settings.
  • Provide personalised care to children, young people and families as per each child’s holistic care plan and identify changes in condition, ensuring these are escalated to the registered nurse.
  • Empower children, young people and their relatives to make decisions about their care and exercise choice.
  • Encourage children and young people to engage in stimulating and creative activities through play, both indoors and outdoors, including local community facilities where appropriate.
  • Ensure psychological and social needs are met alongside physical care.
  • Support a 24/7 service with day and night shifts, offering flexibility as required.
About You
  • Care Certificate or willingness to work towards one.
  • Previous experience working with children with complex health needs.
  • Ability to provide care sensitively, taking into account culture, beliefs and wishes.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures for adults and children.

Person Specification
  • Care certificate (or willingness to undertake).
  • Experience of working with children with complex health needs.
  • Experience within a palliative care setting.

You need to be eligible to work in the UK. Successful candidates will undergo an enhanced DBS check for children and provide evidence of immunisation.
