Job summary

A community support organization is seeking a Personal Assistant/Support Worker in Leeds to provide care for a young adult with a mild learning disability. The ideal candidate will promote independence and assist with social activities, including outings and community engagement. Essential skills include communication, decision-making, and the ability to work unsupervised. This position offers up to 6 hours per week, with additional hours available during school holidays.

Job description
Overview

Job title: Personal Assistant/ Support Worker
Reports to: Parents
Probationary: Yes
Period: 3 months
Holiday Entitlement: 5.6 weeks per annum
Hours: Up to 6 hours per week (School Holidays an additional 8 hours per week)
Hourly Rate: £12.40 weekday; £15.44 weekend

Purpose: To provide a safe level of care for my 24 year old daughter who has a mild learning disability, autism and can be overly friendly to others. She is limited in how she spends her leisure time and needs support from an adult. The role is to promote independence in the community and help her build confidence in using public transport, including practicing bus routes, attending the cinema, and going out for meals. With increased confidence, she may access bowling, cinema, and Zumba sessions with peers independently.

Main Duties:

  • Develop social skills and promote independence
  • Take her on short outings in the community to provide stimulation and gain confidence

Essentials:

  • Show initiative and flexibility
  • Ensure she is supervised at all times in appropriate activities
  • Be sensitive to her needs and feelings
  • Communicate well with family and provide feedback to parents
  • Attend work punctually and consistently
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
