Job description
Overview

PA for a 10-year-old boy with Autism, ADHD and sensory processing needs. Role is to promote independence and social experience. Location is mainly Pudsey LS28 and local community areas in Leeds (Kirkstall, Headingley, Meanwood). The child attends a school in Meanwood and finishes at 2:00 pm. Some activities may occur in other areas, such as Gravity Trampoline Park in Kirkstall or Village Hotel swimming pool in Headingley. You do not need to pick up the child from school.

Hours: 6 hours per week during term time and 8 hours per week during school holidays; 2–3 times a week. Weekday afternoons from 2:30 pm and weekends. The role involves supporting activities and routines without relying on praise or rewards, and ensuring safety in public settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Constant supervision on playgrounds, soft play, trampoline parks, swimming pools, other play areas or at home; prompt social rules without using praise or rewards.
  • Explore a range of activities with the child (e.g., visiting buildings with lifts, trampoline parks, soft play, playgrounds, swimming).
  • Support to go to parks during school holidays and help develop independence, life skills and social well-being.
  • Keep in touch and socialise with family and friends; attend social events such as the cinema.
  • These duties may vary from day to day.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Essential: Knowledge of Autism, ADHD, PDA and challenging behaviour; experience of working with children with Autism and ADHD; calm, confident in de-escalation; ability to support children with challenging behaviour.
  • Strong communication and listening skills; ability to build relationships; confidentiality; ability to work calmly in busy environments and promote social integration without over-stimulation.
  • Be prepared to support the child in limits and safety in and outside the home, including preventing risky situations (e.g., running toward lifts, toilets or doors) when appropriate.
