Job Summary

We are looking for a part‑time, highly enthusiastic, and motivated Oral Health Improvement (OHI) Officer working 2 days per week. This is a new post, from additional investment, to cover Herefordshire. The post will be part of a team working alongside Worcestershire OHI and will sit within the Consultant‑Led Worcestershire Community Dental Service.

The post holder will assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of oral health programmes which will raise awareness and improve the oral health of people living within Herefordshire and will work alongside the existing Oral Health Improvement Team within Worcestershire.

If you have experience delivering oral health improvement programmes and enjoy working with communities to improve oral health outcomes, then joining this new team might be the role for you.

This is a part‑time role working 15 hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and define individual target groups and establish their requirements for oral health promotion training.
  • Plan, develop, organise and deliver Oral Health Education and Promotion Activities within Herefordshire, and support the wider oral health promotion service development across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
  • Review resource needs across the administrative service and role area to ensure delivery.
  • Undertake the collection of appropriate and accurate information to facilitate service contract requirements and developments.
  • Plan, develop, coordinate, deliver and evaluate training programmes and projects for key stakeholders within the area such as dental teams, Public Health, Health Visitors, School Health Nurses, Dietitians, children’s centres, care homes and care agencies.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for the county audiences, using a range of equipment including laptop, projector and visual display boards.
  • Support in the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports relating to Oral Health Promotion activity and the delivery of KPIs.
  • Work in partnership with other healthcare professionals and stakeholders in delivering effective Oral Health Promotion.
  • Carry out office duties related to Oral Health Promotion activities.
  • Undertake quality assurance with key stakeholders, highlighting areas of concern and suggesting changes of practice for the Oral Health Promotion Programme.
  • Undertake administrative duties specific to the role.
  • Supervise the Administrator and coordinate the planning of oral health training sessions.
  • Participate in other tasks including preventative programmes and patient support activities.
  • Deal promptly with direct and indirect enquiries from key stakeholders, staff or other health and/or social care professionals, resolving problems where possible.
  • Undertake Staff Appraisal and Development reviews for administration support.
  • Organise appropriate oral health programmes and national campaigns.
Person Specification
  • Essential Knowledge: Knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling Oral Health Programmes, up‑to‑date knowledge of oral health promotion, broad knowledge of Dentistry, evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Essential Additional Criteria: Self‑motivated, flexible, commitment to continuing professional development, flexible approach to the provision of oral health promotion activities (including evenings and weekends), ability to meet travel requirements.
  • Essential Experience: Experience of implementing and supporting Health Promotion Programmes, previous involvement in oral health promotion, experience of managing day‑to‑day activities, producing, analysing and monitoring monthly data and reports.
  • Essential Skills & Abilities: Ability to challenge poor behaviour, role‑model good behaviour, a positive attitude, ability to praise and support others, communication skills in English, ability to work under pressure, organisational and presentation skills, ability to motivate and interact effectively with management, colleagues, the public and external stakeholders.
  • Desirable: Member of National Oral Health Promotion Group.
  • Qualifications: Essential: Nurses Oral Health/Health Education/Teaching qualification or working towards it, Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject, portfolio of evidence of continuing professional development. Desirable: National Examination Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN), National Diploma in Dental Nursing or equivalent level 3 dental nursing qualification.
