Position: Project Support Officer
Service: Champs Public Health Collaborative (Public Health)
Reports to: Programme Manager
Hosted by: Wirral Council
Purpose: Provide high-quality project, financial, and administrative support to the Cheshire & Merseyside “All Together Smokefree” programme.
Supports programmes on behalf of nine Directors of Public Health and the Director of Population Health for the Integrated Care Board.
Role involves working with multiple stakeholders across Cheshire & Merseyside (Local Authority Public Health teams, NHS England, Public Health England, Strategic Clinical Networks, Clinical Commissioning Groups).
Provide comprehensive support to multiple programmes (typing, drafting responses, reports, presentation materials).
Arrange and coordinate meetings (agendas, papers, minutes, follow-ups, venue and catering arrangements).
Manage incoming/outgoing mail and telephone enquiries.
Develop and maintain electronic and paper filing systems.
Maintain diaries, meeting arrangements, conferences, travel plans.
Input and maintain accurate records using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
Support programme leads to ensure projects are delivered within financial and resource constraints.
Assist programme leads in developing, preparing, and monitoring project plans.
Build and maintain partnerships across teams and organisations.
Provide cover and work collaboratively with colleagues across the Public Health system.
Handle complex and sensitive issues from external customers.
Assist in delivering best value and creating efficiencies.
Support internal audits and resource reporting.
Provide information to senior managers and Consultants in Public Health to meet local or national requirements.
Assist with data collection and report production.
Attend management team meetings as required.
Prioritise workload and respond flexibly to changing demands.
Ensure operational efficiency and continuity under tight deadlines.
Anticipate and resolve problems independently where appropriate.
Escalate issues as required and alert programme leads to opportunities or risks.
NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration or equivalent.
GCSE in Maths and English (or equivalent level C or above).
ECDL or equivalent IT competence.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
Ability to analyse information and make appropriate decisions.
Understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements.
Excellent organisation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience in business support systems, office administration, and customer service.
2 A-Levels or NVQ equivalent in a relevant subject.
IT qualifications or demonstrable IT skills.
Ability to prepare project plans and reports.
Knowledge of public health issues and multi-agency programme delivery.
Understanding of change management and development of work policies or protocols.
Experience in a public sector organisation.
