Overview
Operations Planner – Penrith - Full-time (shift-based) • £35,000. Reporting to: Production Manager. An excellent opportunity has arisen for a detail-focused Operations Planner to join a well-established feed mill operation in Penrith. This role is responsible for raw material planning, production scheduling, dispatch, stock management, and administration to support compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards.
Responsibilities
- Plan incoming raw materials, sample, check paperwork on delivery, and allocate to raw material bins
- Carry out all weighbridge activities
- Plan night production, coordinating with transport to ensure the correct product and quantity is available
- Dispatch finished product in line with loading sheets
- Ensure stock inventory is regularly checked and maintained
- Source and order mill spares, consumables, and services as required
- Assist with administration of Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental compliance, maintaining ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001 systems
- Assist with FLT cover and general mill cover, including preparation of micro additives, checking vehicles, and other tasks as needed
- Liaise with colleagues across the mill and office to ensure tasks are carried out efficiently and cost-effectively
- Raise purchase orders through P2P, receipting against work completed, and maintaining discipline of the system
- Report and monitor OTIF (On Time in Full) performance, managing actions to resolve issues, and reporting tier information to site management
- Complete stock takes and manage formulations
- Oversee vehicle loading and dispatch processes
- Complete monthly SMR reports
- Enter KPI data into the portal, monitor KPI trends, and publish graphs monthly
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a planning, production, or logistics role, ideally within feed milling, manufacturing, or agriculture
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure
- Confident in stock management, scheduling, and reporting
- IT literate with strong data management skills; knowledge of P2P systems desirable
- Understanding of ISO standards (45001, 14001, 50001) is highly advantageous
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across departments
- Flexible, proactive, and willing to assist with wider mill operations as required
Package
- Salary: £35,000
- Hours: 4 on – 4 off, 12-hour shifts
- Option under review: reducing Sunday shift hours and banking the extra hours to be claimed during the week
