Location: You could be based anywhere in the Greater London area, depending on business requirements. This is not a hybrid role – this is a full uniformed role.

The closing date for applications is Monday 2 nd Feb @ 23:59hrs.

The Role

As an Operations Officer you will provide a reassuring visible presence, enforce the rules and regulations of TfL services, and carry out further specific enforcement such as vehicle checks, issuing parking tickets or checking passenger tickets on the bus network. All Officers are trained to tackle anti‑social behaviour and work‑related violence and aggression on our network.

  • Provide high levels of customer service to members of the public and TfL users.
  • Carrying out enforcement and compliance activity across specified modes of transport, e.g., London Buses, Underground, Trams, Ferry Services and Taxi & Private Hire.
  • Routine patrol of the TfL Network and responding to incidents under the guidance and direction of the Resource & Deployment Centre.
  • Report safety concerns and breaches, ensuring positive action is taken to reduce and mitigate risks.
  • Identify potential compliance and enforcement issues and submit relevant intelligence reports.
  • Responsible use of delegated authority activities, such as CSAS, RSAS and byelaw enforcement.
  • Attend court to provide evidence when required and training is provided.

Please note that due to the nature of this role, you may encounter situations which involve violence and aggression, or safeguarding concerns where you will be required to act in support of the individuals involved.

We encourage open communication about challenges and have a well‑established support system in place, including comprehensive training that includes trauma‑informed practices and self‑care strategies, access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and a wide range of mental‑health support and wellbeing resources.

Assessment Process

The recruitment process consists of four stages. You will need to pass each stage to progress onto the next:

  1. Online application form and screening questions.
  2. Online tests.
  3. Assessment centre consisting of competency and scenario‑based interview.
  4. Job‑Related Fitness Test (JRFT).

Please note it will take 10‑14 days after the final assessment event to hear the outcome.

Operations Officer is a physically demanding role. You will need to be in good physical condition to pass the mandatory JRFT, which involves a multi‑stage shuttle run (bleep test) designed to ensure you can perform the essential physical tasks of the job. The required pass mark for recruitment is Level 5.4 (≈3 minutes 35 seconds, 35 shuttles).
