Operations Engineer

A leading international power generation specialist is seeking an experienced Operations Engineer to join its expanding engineering team covering the Cardiff area. With decades of expertise in delivering low‑carbon, energy‑efficient power and storage solutions, this is an excellent opportunity to join a well‑established organisation known for its technical innovation, strong customer values and commitment to sustainability.

As part of the field engineering and operations team, the Operations Engineer will be responsible for the service, maintenance, diagnostics and optimisation of gas and diesel engine installations across a range of industrial and public‑sector sites. You will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, supporting reactive maintenance, and enhancing system performance across critical power and energy projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on gas and diesel engine installations and associated equipment
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and implement reactive maintenance both onsite and remotely
  • Support breakdown response and participate in the established on‑call rota
  • Conduct initial fault‑finding, troubleshooting and system optimisation to improve operational efficiency
  • Work collaboratively with the engineering and operations teams to ensure effective service delivery
  • Maintain accurate service documentation and uphold company safety and quality standards
Essential Requirements
  • ONC, NVQ Level 2, City & Guilds Level 2 or equivalent qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering (motor vehicle or similar considered)
  • Time‑served technician with ideally
  • 3+ years industrial mechanical / electrical experience
  • Strong technical knowledge of gas and / or diesel engines
  • Competent IT skills, including use of standard Microsoft Office applications
  • Full, valid UK driving licence
  • Flexibility to support weekend work and participation in a 24‑hour callout rota
