Job summary

A leading logistics company in the UK is seeking an Operations Controller to oversee logistics operations at the Burton Latimer site. You will ensure timely collection and delivery of shipments, manage staff instructions, and maintain compliance with both company policies and legal requirements. Ideal candidates will have experience in logistics management, relevant GSCEs, and knowledge of EU driver regulations. This position offers a full-time schedule with competitive salary and benefits including annual leave and a pension scheme.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a managerial role within the transport industry is preferred.
  • GSCEs in Maths and English at grade 'C'.
  • Good knowledge of logistics regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the outbound schedule for collections and deliveries.

  • Ensure paperwork accuracy for outbound activities.
  • Liaise with transport department for trailer management.

Good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows package

Job description
Key Duties of an Operations Controller
  • Efficiently managing the outbound schedule to ensure collection and delivery times are met.
  • Issuing instructions to designated staff to maintain a smooth flow of inbound and outbound work.
  • Controlling paperwork for outbound vacancies ensuring 100% accuracy.
  • Controlling the flow of international inbound to ensure scheduling adherence and to limit any potential demurrage claims.
  • Fulfilment of paperwork requirements for despatches.
  • Communicating issues to the Shift Manager in a timely manner to minimise disruption to the schedule.
  • Liaising with the transport department to ensure a continual trailer flow.
  • Participating as an active member of the operations team, and to offer suggestions for solving problems, improving efficiency, customer and quality focus.
  • Maintaining good communication with transport providers to ensure late collections and delivery failures are avoided.
  • Producing a thorough, detailed handover to the following shift highlighting potential issues, reminders and a current state of play.
Qualifications
Essential
  • GSCE in Maths and English at at least a grade 'C' or equivalent.
  • 5 GSCEs at at least a grade 'C' or equivalent.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows package (word and excel in particular).
  • Strong working knowledge of GTS and the GTS system.
  • Knowledge of and experience within the logistics sector.
  • Good working knowledge of WTD and EU drivers hours regulations.
Desirable
  • Nationally recognised Health and Safety qualification
  • CPC National Qualification
  • At least 5 years experience in a managerial role within the transport industry

Job Description

We are currently seeking an Operations Controller to join our Operations team at our Burton Latimer site on a full time permanent basis! As an Operations Controller you will contribute to the success of the site by managing drivers and vehicles, ensuring that legal requirements are adhered to, vehicles are roadworthy and drivers working within EU driver regulations. You will also have some responsibility for effective site management in accordance with company policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant H&S regulations. Shift: 4 on 4 off, 18:00 - 06:00. Salary: £34,624.51
