The Vacancy
The Operational Finance Business Partner will provide a high quality analysis service within the operations area of the business ensuring that the COO and directors have timely, accurate and appropriate financial information on which to base business decisions, based on comprehensive and business oriented analysis and management reporting.
Key Success Criteria
- Production of periodic analytical reporting to meet business area requirements to required deadlines
- Completion of forecasts, budgets & medium term plans to required deadlines both for the business's cost base and capital expenditure
- Provision of insight driven analysis of business activities to improve business performance and build budgets and forecasts that take into account the business performance and strategy
- Provide challenge to the business re cost performance which is supported by analysis in order to drive timely decision making, identify opportunities and/or course correction where required.
- Identification and recommendation of opportunities to improve the efficiency and profitability of business activities through a sound understanding of the revenue and cost base.
- Work with business to develop robust business cases to support business change or investment challenge.
- Sought out by the business as an internal advisor/consultant
- Implementation and maintenance of a continuous improvement culture seeking ways to improve processes and ways of working.
Key Results Areas
- Production of forecasts, budgets and corporate plans to meet the long term strategic goals and objectives of the business
- Production of actual monthly results for cost/revenue areas including preparation of monthly journals, and review of accruals/prepayments as required, and review of management accounts prepared by the accounts assistant - ensuring accuracy and completion.
- Production of cost and cash capital expenditure results for the business, in addition to forecasting for cash flow purposes
- Prepare monthly performance pack for review by the Senior Director Airport Operations, and Senior director for Transformation and change providing analysis, drawing out key drivers of performance against budget/forecast/prior year, trend analysis, and KPIs.
- Produce clear and concise review documents highlighting material variances, their underlying causes and impact on profitability, and derive recommendations on strategic action plans
- Understand the financial profile of the business and how to maximise efficiency and profitability within these constraints
- Act as business change agent proactively identifying and implementing process improvements within the team and across the business
- Provide guidance on finance matters within relevant business area.
- Undertake financial analysis for business cases/contract negotiations ensuring consistency with business objectives
- Preparation of input into Board documents, ensuring high quality of input and accuracy
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent
- CIMA/ACA/ACCA Qualified or part qualified accountant (with required experience)
- Demonstrable background in financial planning and analysis
Skills
- Excellent quantitative, analytical skills
- Strong excel skills
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present volumes of detailed information in appropriately summarised format.
- Ability to influence at all levels of the business
- Ability to identify and proactively solve problems
- Ability to forge successful & challenging relationships across the business
- Excellent presentation skills and an ability to explain complex financial issues to a non‑financial audience
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Experience
- Significant experience in a commercial/operational financial and planning environment including time spent in an analytical/partnering role
- Significant experience in dealing with labour intensive businesses (e.g Transport, Aviation, Retail) with focus on productivity and driving manpower efficiencies
- Evidence of commercial acumen and able to demonstrate a broad based view of issues, events and activities and a perception of their longer term impact or wider implications
- Demonstrable ability to assess situations and appropriately prioritise key information and issues.
