Overview

As the Operational Field Safety Manager, you will play a crucial role in providing end-to-end health and safety support and guidance across various locations, formats, and operations. Working closely with leaders across the business including senior managers, you will ensure the effective implementation of safety management systems and policies covering a wide range of health and safety, food safety, trading standards, environmental protection, construction, and fire safety. Your responsibilities will include managing incident investigations, regulatory visits, risk assessments, and coaching to drive continual improvements in health and safety standards and culture. Additionally, you will actively participate in company-wide projects, act as a policy owner for certain health and safety processes, and contribute to the development of safety-related guidelines and procedures to enhance operational safety and performance across the organisation.

Who you are

As the Operational Field Safety Manager, you are a knowledgeable and proactive health and safety professional with a strong track record in implementing safe and legal processes in operational settings, ideally within retail and logistics environments. Your ability to drive continual improvements in health and safety standards through coaching and support, coupled with your expertise in accident investigation and root cause analysis, allows you to effectively lead and guide location teams towards harm reduction and optimal safety outcomes. With excellent communication skills, a dedication to ongoing personal development, and a commitment to fostering a culture of safety and care for our customers and colleagues. You play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective implementation of safety management systems across all locations and formats, ultimately contributing to the overall success of the organisation.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrable experience applying safe and legal operational processes to ensure compliance across multiple locations.
  • Proven understanding of Health & Safety and Food Safety & Hygiene standards, ideally within retail, logistics, or similar operational environments.
  • Commitment to achieving a recognised qualification in Health & Safety or Food Safety (e.g. NEBOSH Diploma, NCRQ, CIEH Level 4) within an agreed timeframe.
  • Evidence of coaching others to improve performance and support fair, consistent decision-making.
  • Track record of influencing internal and external stakeholders to implement safety initiatives and drive compliance.
