Job description

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self‑motivated Operation Team Member who thrives in a fast‑paced environment. The position is based in London at Bounds Green Train Maintenance Centre. The role is part of the Movements Team and involves the safe control of movements of traction and rolling stock as a designated person on and off‑site, as well as the control of movements around the depot in line with operating procedures. Other key functions of the role require forming, re‑coupling and uncoupling vehicles/set‑units, operating ground‑frame panels, passing competent outstations, and passing as a driver competent shunter.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake shunting duties as instructed by the Operations Team Leader in conjunction with operating procedures, ensuring these duties are carried out safely and in a controlled manner.
  • Ensure all shunting duties are carried out in line with the Rule Book, Appendix, and other instructions.
  • Arrive and depart T&RS safely using approved techniques as set out within the Rule Book, Appendix, and other instructions.
  • Maintain the standard and condition of all equipment required for movement operations to a high standard, reporting any faults or defects.
  • Attend station and main‑line callouts where required, working within regulations and procedures as defined in the Personal Rule Book and Depot Safe Systems of Work.
  • Through adherence to Depot Operating Procedures, ensure the quality of operational movements undertaken is delivered safely and timely, enabling the TMC to meet contractual requirements agreed with the customer.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience working within a rail environment.
  • PTS qualified or able.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic numeracy and literacy.
  • Sound knowledge of and compliance with the rulebook and operational procedures.
  • Ability to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to build working relationships.
  • Ability to remain flexible and withstand pressure.
Desired Skills (Not Essential)
  • Basic IT skills – typically Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Experience with Fleet Management Tools – P2, SOROS, Open Train Times.
  • Experience working with traction and rolling stock.
