Job description
Overview

We’re looking for compassionate and caring Nursing Assistants to be a key part of the patient care journey at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). Our Nursing Assistants take pride in essential work, delivering high quality, patient-focused care to patients and families.

You’ll communicate in a sensitive and compassionate manner with patients, relatives, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team, working flexibly across off-site areas over six days a week. This opportunity is to join the Macular Treatment Centre (MTC) Teams at the Oxford Road Campus.

The Macular Treatment Centre is renowned as a centre of excellence for treatment of macular eye conditions, with emphasis on research and audit. Informal visits are welcome. There will be a requirement to work across sites to support MTC@North, MTC@Trafford and South Manchester to meet service needs.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Nursing team under supervision of Registered Nurses and within Trust guidelines and protocols to deliver high standards of patient care.
  • Support clinical activities including VA (visual acuity reviews), IOP (intraocular pressure), and work as a circulating nurse in theatre.
  • Support patients with personal care needs, including mobilizing, toileting, eating and drinking.
  • Record patient observations and changes in condition as part of delegated clinical care duties.
  • Engage with patients, relatives and the multidisciplinary team to ensure compassionate, patient-focused care.
Training, development and progression
  • On joining MFT, new staff are supported to develop knowledge and skills through the Support Worker Development Programme for Nursing Assistants, including completion of the Care Certificate. Completion provides the opportunity to progress to a Band 3 Nursing Assistant role.
  • Experienced Nursing Assistants undergo a skills analysis at start to identify gaps and access relevant clinical skills modules to progress to a Band 3 post on completion.
  • Evidence of prior learning will be reviewed and considered.
About MFT
  • MFT is one of the largest NHS Trusts in England with a turnover of over £3bn, bringing together 10 hospitals and community services across Manchester, Trafford and beyond. The Trust champions collaborative working and transformation and offers a wide scale of opportunities.
  • We are a digitally enabled organisation with Hive, our Electronic Patient Record system launched in September 2022, to improve clinical quality and staff experience.
  • We are a major academic Research Centre & Education provider with a Green Plan to support sustainable healthcare. We foster a culture of inclusion, equal opportunities, and wellbeing for all staff.
Additional information

At MFT, you’ll be supported to develop your knowledge and skills through our Development Programmes for Nursing Assistants.
