Overview of the Role

TARA Recruitment is proud to be supporting a Telford School in the appointment of a Non-Teaching Head of Year 9. This is a vital pastoral leadership role focused on supporting student wellbeing, behaviour, attendance, and personal development during a key stage of secondary education.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior leaders, teaching staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure students in Year 9 are supported to achieve their full potential both academically and personally. This role is ideal for an experienced pastoral professional who is passionate about making a positive impact on young people’s lives.

Key Responsibilities of the Head of Year
  • Lead and manage the pastoral support for all students in Year 9
  • Promote positive behaviour, high standards of attendance, and student wellbeing
  • Act as a key point of contact for students, parents/carers, and staff
  • Monitor and support students progress, behaviour, and safeguarding concerns
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and senior leadership to implement school policies
  • Support students through challenges and contribute to early intervention strategies
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports and meetings as required
Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience working with young people in a pastoral, behaviour, or student support role (school-based experience preferred)
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management, and student wellbeing
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to promoting equality, inclusion, and high expectations for all students
Desirable
  • Experience working within a secondary school setting
  • Knowledge of attendance strategies and behaviour intervention programmes
  • Relevant qualifications in youth work, education support, pastoral care, or similar
