Night Support Worker

An opportunity to join the organisation’s residential services team, supporting adult residents in a safe, secure, and positive environment while maintaining excellent standards of care, safeguarding and night-time monitoring.

Candidates will need to be comfortable engaging with male residents who are involved at varying stages in the criminal justice system.

SALARY: £24,196 FTE / Actual Annual Salary £12,968 (based on 19.83 hours) + Unsocial Hours Payment + Benefits (see below)

LOCATION: Newcastle upon Tyne, North East England (NE4 6) – Fully Site Based

JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Permanent & Casual Hours Available

PART-TIME WORKING HOURS: Average 19.83 Hours per Week on a 6 week rota – additional shifts available on a casual basis

Shifts are 8.5 hours from 23:30 to 08:00 Nights

CASUAL WORKING HOURS: Flexible. Casual Hours also Available (will be discussed during interview stage)

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Night Support Worker supporting adult men within a residential approved premises setting. As a Night Support Worker you will help maintain a safe environment, promote routine, and support residents throughout the night.

The Night Support Worker plays a key part in monitoring wellbeing, safeguarding residents, and ensuring compliance with house rules. You will work closely with colleagues, using your communication skills and attention to detail to record information accurately and maintain clear boundaries.

This role suits someone organised, calm under pressure and confident using basic IT systems, with the ability to motivate and support individuals with diverse needs.

DUTIES
  • Maintaining a Watchful Presence: Monitor residents and the premises throughout each night shift
  • Conducting Regular Checks: Carry out hourly checks between twelve midnight and seven o’clock
  • Recording Information: Log relevant issues accurately in the building’s records
  • Supporting Night Routines: Help residents follow consistent close down procedures
  • Monitoring Compliance: Work with the Project Support Worker to ensure house rules are followed
  • Responding to Calls: Answer incoming calls overnight and manage issues appropriately
  • Escalating Concerns: Contact the On Call Worker in emergencies or high-risk situations
  • Undertaking Domestic Tasks: Complete general cleaning, admin tasks and data entry
  • Attending Training: Participate in essential training, meetings and development opportunities
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Experience of working with a diverse range of people
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook and basic Excel
  • An understanding of safeguarding
  • Ability to work night shifts and weekends
  • Ability to communicate clearly with strong listening skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships with residents and colleagues

  • Empathy, tact and discretion when handling sensitive matters

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a residential setting
  • An understanding of factors influencing offending
  • Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System
  • A knowledge of Health and Safety principles
