Neonatal Senior Sister/Charge Nurse

St Helier's Neonatal Services comprise 2 Intensive Care Unit (ITU) cots, 4 High Dependency Unit (HDU) cots, 8 Special Care (SC) cots, and 8 Transitional Care (TC) cots. In addition, Epsom Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) provides 6 Special Care cots. We are committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for parents and families, enabling them to develop the confidence and skills to care for their babies.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to the principles of Family Integrated Care and actively support the unit's progression towards Baby Friendly Initiative and BLISS accreditation.

  • Provide effective leadership and professional development for nursing and support staff within neonatal services.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, standardised, and evidence-based care consistently across all areas.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, compassion, and excellence in neonatal care.
Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities

Provide expert clinical leadership and supervision to the neonatal nursing team, ensuring the delivery of consistently high standards of care.

Oversee the full cycle of neonatal care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to guarantee safe, effective, and evidence-based treatment.

Mentor and support nursing staff through structured education, training, and performance reviews, fostering a culture of professional development and continuous improvement.

Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including medical staff, allied health professionals, and families, to coordinate holistic and patient-centered care.

Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols and policies, ensuring alignment with local and national standards and best practices.

Provide compassionate emotional support and clear education to families, helping them understand their infant's condition, treatment plan, and ongoing care needs.

Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory and governance requirements.

Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, demonstrating advanced expertise in neonatal resuscitation and critical care management.
