Job description

Job Description

The Shop Service Technician repairs forklifts and various other equipment that W.D. Matthews Machinery Co. sells and services at an onsite shop location. The equipment includes, but is not limited to, gas, diesel, propane, and electric-powered material handling equipment, as well as aerial lift and manlift equipment. The position reports directly to the Field Service Manager and works with a team of technicians. The technician will coordinate with and work under the supervision of the Shop Service Manager to complete orders efficiently.

This role requires mechanical experience and interest, with a preference for at least two years of related skills. Experience in corrective and preventative forklift maintenance is highly desirable, but candidates with other mechanical repair experience are also considered. Basic computer skills are necessary to operate diagnostic and other programs. Vocational Tech education focusing on automotive, equipment, or hydraulics is a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Maintain, repair, and inspect material handling and manlift equipment.
  2. Keep and maintain records of all maintenance activities and administrative actions.
  3. Respond to and resolve customer repair requests and complaints.
  4. Order and track parts needed for repairs.
  5. Occasionally fabricate parts or equipment.
  6. Clean and wash equipment.
  7. Follow safety procedures, including isolating power sources and stored energy for safe maintenance.
  8. Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of two years of mechanical repair or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in corrective and preventative forklift maintenance is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of general maintenance requirements of various equipment.
  • Effective communication skills with staff and customers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing tasks or jobs.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication.
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Vocational Tech classes or degree in automotive, equipment, or hydraulics are a plus.
