Job summary

A prominent healthcare provider in the UK is seeking a qualified RMN or Occupational Therapist to lead the Mental Health Urgent Triage Team. Job overview

Emergency services are receiving increasing volumes of calls for individuals presenting with acute mental health issues in the community. A significant proportion of emergency services resources is being used to support individuals struggling with their mental health, who often present with complex issues that require further assessment and ongoing support. The Mental Health Urgent Triage Team (MHUT) is a partnership between Pennine Care Foundation Trust, Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) North-West Ambulance Service (NWAS), and Greater manchester Police (GMP). You will be based within the clinical hub in NWAS and will have training in the use of the EOC software systems.

Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical and operational leadership for the MHUT, working closely with colleagues across mental health services within Pennine Care.
  • Work within the MHUT triaging 999 calls and providing senior support to the team.
  • Be involved in the ongoing review of the new service and developments.
  • Collect and feedback data operational and clinical outcomes alongside feedback from patient journeys to support quality improvement.
  • Provide an effective and efficient response to referrals from GMP and NWAS.
  • Support service users to access the right care at the right time in the least restrictive way, reducing system pressures across emergency services, locality EDs, and S136 suites.
  • Provide urgent triage of mental health-related 999 calls using assessment, formulation, and decision-making skills to ascertain risk, self-defined crisis, and next steps.
  • Complete mental health assessments following triage for those presenting with acute mental health needs.
  • Strengthen working relationships between agencies on the front line, providing mutual education and sharing insight into available local resources and support for local service users.
  • Provide leadership and advice in the management of complex cases.

Person specification
  • Candidate must be a qualified RMN or Occupational Therapist
  • Understanding of urgent care services across GM including mental health liaison, community mental health teams and home based treatment teams
  • Understanding of leadership, even as a B6.
  • Evidence of leadership courses

Additional Information

The Trust mandates all post holders who require a DBS for their role to subscribe to the DBS Update Service. You will be required to enrol for this service for a fee of £16 per year and maintain registration throughout your employment with GMMH.
