Job Overview

The Ministry of Defence Guard Service (MGS) is seeking a Security Supervisor to oversee and support security operations across key Defence sites. The role requires resilience, alertness, effective teamwork and strong customer‑service and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all MGS Security Officers at the unit, supervising daily shifts and ensuring coverage as directed by the Operational Manager.
  • Deploy officers in line with assignment instructions and Joint Business Agreement / General Statement of Security Requirements (GSSORs).
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with Unit Head of Establishment, customer representatives and other security providers to deliver high‑quality service.
  • Assist the Operational Manager in ensuring unit compliance with NSI and maintaining up‑to‑date procedures.
  • Operate security systems according to standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain performance integrity through effective management, fostering an inclusive environment and addressing concerns promptly.
  • Respond to security incidents, working with first responders and following established procedures.
  • Visit nearby MGS units to provide supervisory support and collaborate with employees and customers as needed.
  • Write reports on breaches of security, defects and maintain daily logs.
  • Effectively communicate with customers, raising complaints through the appropriate chain of command.
  • Operate, monitor and supervise security systems such as CCTV, alarms, telephone and radio.
Shift Pattern

This is a shift‑working role of 48 hours per week, comprising four 12‑hour shifts. The roster operates on a Sun–Sat basis and can include nights, weekends and bank holidays. A flexible week may involve changes with at least 48 hours’ notice.

Licences & Qualifications

Training and Development

All new starters participate in a mandatory two‑week residential Foundation Course, followed by on‑the‑job training and an annual programme of mandatory online training. A dedicated Workforce Development Team supports further learning.

Employment Conditions

The role offers a salary of £34,910. The Ministry of Defence provides a Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme contribution of £10,113 and a range of benefits including generous leave, pension, travel, and training opportunities. Relocation assistance is not available.
