Job description

The College is seeking applications for a Mentor - Step Up Project for a fixed-term position until March 2026 based in our Strand Road campus.The post holder will act as a Mentor for the Step Up Project to support participants to re-engage with education, training and pathways to employment.

Responsibilities
  • Support participant recruitment across the College in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders including, Community and Voluntary groups.
  • Support the administration of the Step Up Project at College level.
  • Answer queries from agencies, participants, College staff or the general public.
  • Deliver induction and initial assessment activities which set programme objectives to meet both individual needs and to deliver and facilitate the development of an Individual Development Plan (IDP).
  • Plan and carry out regular individual progress reviews as set out in the Individual Development Plan (IDP)
Skills and Qualifications
  • Have at least a Level 4 qualification in any discipline.
  • Have GCSE English (Grade C or higher) or Essential Skills Level 2 (or higher) in Communication, or any qualifications which are deemed to be equivalent.
  • Have GCSE Maths (Grade C or higher) or Essential Skills Level 2 (or higher) in Numeracy, or NICATS Access Maths Modules, or any qualifications which are deemed to be equivalent.
  • Have at least two years employment experience offering tailored support and/or mentoring to disadvantaged or underrepresented individuals/groups such as those who are economically inactive, Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEETS).
  • Have experience in the use of computer software and Microsoft Office packages such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel to produce reports, data analysis and presentations.
  • Have a current full driving licence and access to a car.(Applicants with a disability (as defined in the Disability Discrimination Act 1995) who have been prevented from obtaining a driving licence due to their disability are eligible to apply).
  • Have at least a Level 5 qualification in any discipline
